A new tradition

As we did last year, this year we used the B to collect our Christmas tree in what we now see as a traditional run.

Even compared to when we transported the tree using the boot space of a much larger modern SUV, we find using the B with a roof-rack so much easier and simpler. The B is low enough that dropping the tree on top is easy and 3 straps secures it for the 18 mile trip home. The added bonus is that you don't keep finding pine needles in the car for the next year.

This year with us collecting the tree on a Friday instead of a Saturday, we hit some major tailbacks on the road home. While sat in traffic with the temperature rising I noticed that the radiator fan had failed to kick in. Luckily we were in a town where we could pull down a side street to investigate.

I first tried shorting the fan feed at the radiator which would, if the fan started, indicate an issue with the temp sender. There was no sign of life so my next check was the fuse. The rad fan is fused using one of the inline fuses below the fusebox. As I handled one of the holders it was clear that one of the wires had become disconnected. Pushing this back in brought the fan to life, but it wouldn't stay without help. The short nature of the wire made a temporary roadside fix tricky but I eventually managed to get some tape to pull the two parts together and it held until it got home. Something to add to the list of things to look at next.
