New cylinder

It's been pretty cold recently so work on the car has slowed a little, but we've finished off the clutch assembly by fitting the master cylinder. On the original cylinder the outlet pointed upwards, but the new one's thread meant that the outlet would be angled to one side. To fix this we added an additional washer to the end of the cylinder.

Removing the rear brakes

Got the rear brake disassembled today to replace the brake cylinder. Unfortunately you need to take the whole lot off to do this. John Twist from University Motors does a good step-by-step of this, though repeating his steps on a wheel still attached to a car and whose parts are a tad rusty takes a bit more time.

Clutch slave in place

The new slave cylinder, hose and line are all in place. This is a pretty fiddly operation as the join of the line and hose is above a bracket which is obstructed by the starter motor.

About Inca Yellow

A while back I inherited a 1979 MGB GT. It had been sat in a garage for nearly two decades and was in desperate need of a bit of attention. Knowing absolutely nothing about cars and even less about engines I, of course, decided to get it back on the road.
